First, my disclaimer: I am not a long time mac user. My MacBook Pro was a gift for a programming job. I don’t have years of use so iPhoto still feels sort of alien to me in that it handles the majority of the organizational tasks I used to do manually back-in-the-day. Actually, I had the same problem with iTunes when I first started using that with an iPod (ironically also a gift). Allowing a program to change the way I organize my assets involves a lot of trust right out of the gate. But, once I let go of the need to handle the organization of my files and let the program handle that — the Apple way of thinking became less problematic for me.

So with all that said: Facebook iPhoto iPhone is a great combo. Its not perfect, but its pretty good for sharing photo. If you have a bunch of pictures on your iPhone — when you sync up with iTunes, iPhoto is launched and a new event is created with those images saved.

Which is nice — but if you are like me every single friend is on Facebook. Uploading alot of images is a drag and since they are already sorted in iPhoto it would be nice if we could just upload the entire event (or whatever group of images).

Okay, so after googling I found this program Facebook Exporter for iPhoto. With minor set up you can batch upload entire blocks directly to your Facebook account. Its a free plug-in that has worked almost flawlessly for me. A couple of glitches to watch out for though: you can’t upload to existing albums and it has problems when you have more than one account. Minor problems in my eyes.

1.  Select Photos in your iPhoto Library

Select your favorite photos or a whole album, click “Export” in the “File” menu (or the “Share” menu in iPhoto 5), then click the “Facebook” tab. Your photos will be previewed here.

2.  Pick a Facebook Album

Pick one of your existing Facebook albums, or create a new one. Your photos will be uploaded to this album.

3.  Add Captions

Scroll through your photos and add captions to any or all of them. The captions are auto-filled with any comments you’ve already made through iPhoto.

4.  Tag Your Friends

You can tag your friends using the same quick-and-easy interface found on Facebook. Click on someone in your photo, then select from a list of your friends.

Note: If any of your friends have disabled access for this Platform application, they won’t be displayed in your friend list.

5.  Export

When you are done adding captions and tags, click the “Export” button to upload your photos to your Facebook account. The uploaded photos are considered pending. You’ll have the opportunity to review pending photos on Facebook and set the privacy level before making them visible from your profile.

Its pretty turnkey but if you have any questions just post a comment.
