What is this?
GainOrLoss.com is a web based account register for balancing your personal finance accounts (checking, savings, credit cards, expense reports). It's a freeware account register that allows a user to input their financial transactions for easy balancing and reporting. Our mission here is to get a better understanding of where our money goes.

Is it secure?
We practice security through a variety of means, both practical and physical. First, our account creation process only requires the absolute minimum needed (Username and password) to get you started. We know very little about you. All passwords are stored in an encrypted field, so we couldn't tell you what your password was even if we wanted to. All transactions are encoded before being inputted into your ledger, so we can't read them (if we we wanted to), and we wouldn't know who they belong to anyways.
Our physical location is a state of the art datacenter, with 24x7 physical security, biometric scans, nightly backups, and tier one servers

What does it cost?
Currently, GainOrLoss.com is 100% free. We are supported via advertising deals. Future plans are to add additional features at an extremely small cost, but these will be optional for a use to user to purchase as they see fit.

Why do I have to make an account?
We need you to make an account so we can create a ledger for you. Only input the data you are comfortable with us having. You may enter and change your account information at any point.

I forgot my password, can you tell me what it is?
No, but you can use the account reset form to reset it. You will need to answer the security question though.

Is my data backed up?
Yes, we do a nightly incremental back up and a full backup of the database every week.

I want to back it up myself, how do I do that?
Use the download my ledger to CSV. A CSV file is a text file that all major spreadshit programs understand.

Sometimes I get a notice from my browser that a script is taking a long time.
Depending on how many transactions, and the parameters you have selected for updating your ledger there may be a lot of information passing from our system to the screen. Click Continue and it will show the data. We are aware of this issue.
